So you're interested in Fable II, are you? Deciding if it's worth a pre-order? Well Microsoft wants your business ASAP, and is willing to lure you with promised virtual riches if you're fond of playing pub games on XBox Live. Here's how it works. 1) Pre-order Fable II, 2) Download the Fable II pub games(available all in one neat little package) 3) Play oodles of games until 4) Your Fable II coffers fill up with riches you will have access to once you get your actual copy of the game. Can we say brilliant? The pub games are pretty much what you might expect to find in any roadside ale house, "Keystone," a combo of craps and roulette, "Spinnerbox" which works like slots, and "Fortune's Tower," which is a press your luck sort of deal.

If you can fork over the $79.99 price tag, I would recommend getting the limited edition when you head on in for your pre-order. The LE gets you a bonus disc behind the scenes video, a collectible Hobbe figurine, a trial card for XBox Live, and extra in-game goodies. It's only 20 bucks over the standard edition, so if you're a Fable fan, it's definitely the way to go.

Hmmm. This is certainly an interesting idea, insomuch as I can't turn the concept of a playable preorder bonus that actually carries over to the main game. I just can't help but wonder if this will end up rendering Fable 2 a bit easy... I mean, I suppose it really depends on how much gold you can get, but I have the image of starting out as a Level 1 Neophyte with the Unstoppable Sword of Kings and Armor of the Gods, thanks to my huge pub winnings. Of course, I suppose you could do those same pub winnings in-game, but I somehow suspect there will be some sort of punishment for hanging around pubs gambling all day.

At least you have to play something to get the cash, and if you opt to buy Fables II after launch it doesn't change your game experience any. This is a way better way to use DLC to reward pre-order players in-game than, say, the utter garbage Tales of Vesperia is pulling with its DLC. And, as none of us have played Fables II, for all we know it's one of those games where having a ton of money early in the game from grinding pub games just means you don't end up grinding something else instead, and can't actually buy great stuff at start.

This is incredibly true. All worry about it making the game overly easy aside, it's a great idea for a pre-order bonus that actually carries over into the game.
