The time has almost arrived. Two more days until, at long last, Warhammer beta goes live. But how fantastic is it really? I will not complain, this so called "Beta" helped Gamestop get many a Warhammer reservation, but is it really worth it to get to play the game for only a couple weeks before the release date?

Warhammer will be released on Sep. 18th; merely 11 days after players get their first look into the new world. I cannot help but wonder if this has anything to do with the rumors that Warhammer, much like Age of Conan, spent too much time on the beginning levels, leaving the last levels with something to be desired. . .

Any who, check out the Official Press Release for all the fine print details of the open Beta, coming Sep. 7th!

It's an interesting game, I'm just not sure exactly how successful it will be when facing AoC and WoW. The design is quite pretty, and realm v. realm is intriguing and all, I'm just not sure how much a solo player will be able to do within a game format like that.

This comment is only from my point of view and not from anyone else that I know:

I played into the closed beta, like a lot of other individuals, and after a while I realised why I had such a hard time digesting the game (right now). I was really pleased by many ideas they have, and as such, questing in the game is realy fun.
But, as it stands, the animations and the pvp balancing simply aggravates me to the point that I have yelled very loud, cussing at the thing itself. I then realised that, since I played other mmo's in the past, I am looking for quality and it would need to tickle my fancy even more of what I have right now.

I won't go into details, but I'd like to pinpoint what frustrated me the most, and that is the animation and server lag. The choppiness, and when it tells you three seconds later that your channeled spell did not work, turned me down.

Anyone could bring the argument that the game is in beta, but I have to reassure the reader that I work in the feild, and unfornatuely, the last beta build is the build that will be used for the final game. I think that it is what feeds my current depression about WO. If you tell me that WO would be in testing/polishing process all the way until December, I wouldn't think this way.

And now, just to contradict myself, I had a lot of fun questing as a greenskin, to be honest. The environment and the voices (especially the voices) are really great. This is from a low level perspective.

I don't know anyone who's been playing WO long enough to be high level, but the one journalist I know who spent any significant amount of time with the game absolutely loved it and wrote a long piece about how superior it is to WoW (which I found interesting-- if I love something I usually don't call out something else with it at the same time).

He's a real PvP guy, though, so I'll note that he was big on realm v. realm. What he wrote about the mechanic made it sound like it was totally accessible to solo players-- you could just opt to basically throw in on your side of ongoing conflicts and help out if you wanted, with rewards for pitching in, and nothing lost if you don't.

Basically it sounded like WO somehow managed to make "casual PvP" a reality-- if so then this game may have something that would let it survive in the face of AoC at least. WoW is another story entirely.
