Hello there my fellow RPG lovers. I am writing to discuss a new adventure I am undertaking.

Let me explain: Due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, I am left with only a PS2, a crappy PC and a DS. I am unable to play any of the new and awesome RPGs on the Xbox360; therefore, I have decided to simply play some of the older and most well-known RPGs out there. I am beginning on a journey that may turn out to be more than I bargained for. . .

Thanks to my wonderful job at GameStop, I am allowed to check out one game at a time. Using this to my advantage, I will check out one fantastic and ancient PS2 RPG a week, play it, and discuss the finer, and not so fine, points of the game.

Please feel free to leave me suggestions on classic RPGs to delve into. There are many out there that need some recognition, and I am glad to put in the time to take them off the shelves, dust them off, and give them a second life.

This week: Odin Sphere -

I will follow up on this in a couple days (hopefully, with a decent portion of the game under my belt).

Ta ta for now,

CnC

Shin Megami Tensei anything in that realm has been great.

Odin Sphere is excellent as well, I love the artwork in it.

I have a guilty pleasure for the gundamn RPG, MS Saga.

Seriously if you want RPGS, the PS2 is the best system hands down. I have yet to truly be impressed with any Xbox360 RPGs yet.

MS Saga is actually a very good - if very difficult - RPG on its own terms. I would recommend it to a player willing to do stuff like memorize enemy attack patterns.

I'm not a huge fan of Odin Sphere - I really think trying to reuse the Princess Crown engine was a mistake given what they wanted to do with the gameplay. That said, the main story is very short, so I won't be surprised if you've beaten it by the time you do your follow-up. =)

SMT is great but requires a particular mindset to enjoy. Persona 3 is probably the most accessible of the PS2 games, though I prefer SMT3 Nocturne's old-school stylings myself. I sort of recommend staying away from Devil Summoner and the Avatar Tuner games on PS2 for now, as those titles are really more for players who are already diehards.

Hmm. Well, on the PS2, there is the Suikoden series. (I recommend Suikoden V. Both easy to find and significantly better then III and IV), the Wild Arms series, (eh)... but if you're looking for a particularly obscure while still fun set and your Gamestop happens to have it, I'd look into Shadow Hearts.

Still playing persona 3 FES (and love it), that damn game does not end! haven't started Disgaea 3 cause of it.
Never played Odin Sphere but I've been wanting to get it.
