Along with the rest of the content bridging the old expansion with the new, Patch 3.0.2 will bring an entirely new profession to the game we know as WoW. When I put together a Powerleveling guide to Inscription a few months back, I had no idea how much the profession would change. Since then, I have spent my time farming plants, watching websites, and doing some beta Inscribing on my own, all in hopes of transmitting that information to you the reader.

The profession has changed much over the course of the beta. The smallest element in the Inscription chemical chain used to be called a pomace, but now we know it as the pigment. There are nine levels of pigments, and each of them are created using the herbs gathered at a certain level of Herbalism. If you are eager to complete your collection, look no further. omgRPG has a shopping list for you to take to the Auction House, or if you are crazy like I am, to use as you gather all the necessary plants this week in anticipation of the patch. I'm focusing on those plants that can be gathered now, but keep in mind that the final levels of Inscription are only attainable using plants you will gather in Northrend. This means that you can reach a maximum level of around 350 before the expansion. The rest will have to wait until November 13th.

Pigments

The first thing you need to know about powerleveling inscription is what plant applies to which pigment. Remember, in order to make pigments, Scribes will use the Milling skill, which will turn 5 plants into 2 or 3 pigments. This means that you will need a minimum of 5 plants for every time you Mill an herb. I therefore recommend you work with complete stacks of plants, so that you won't end up with uneven stacks that you won't be able to use.

In a nutshell, here is the current list of herbs, what pigments they Mill into, and how much you will need to gather of each:

Pigment Stacks

Alabaster 10 Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot

Herbs

Alright, while none of this is exact science or anything, in gathering my herbs over the last few months, I have put together a personal shopping list of sorts that you might find simple enough for your own use. These herbs are relatively cheaper and more plentiful that their group mates. Granted I expect the herb market to change dramatically in the weeks to come, which is why I recommend getting your herbs now. Bank alt anyone?

Supplies

Originally known as Scribe's Tools, the Virtuoso Inking Set is an item that all Scribes will need to have in their possession when they work on Inscription. Any Inscription supplier or trainer sells the Inking Set, and it costs a little over 7 silver, depending on your reputation with the appropriate faction. With the parchment, you will have a few left over, but as you can use these to make glyphs for friends and relatives, the additional cost is minimal.

Quantity Item
1 Virtuoso Inking Set
60 Light Parchment
60 Common Parchment

Part 2 of the guide will pick up with 150 and get to you 225, and then we will push from 225 to 350. I'll be working on those this week, and hopefully will have them up before BlizzCon. If not, look for them shortly after we return. Until then, happy herbing!
