MMO giant World of Warcraft today announced that they have officially topped the 11 million subscriber mark. While many may mark this as just another notch in the belt of the most popular MMORPG to date, others simply point to the underground businesses feeding off of WoW such as gold farming, powerleveling, and account sales. At least a small (and perhaps even a large) percentage of the 11 million is taken up by the darker side of MMOs. I also tend to think that at least half a million of those subscribers are simply refer-a-friend accounts people set up to level easier -- not that I know this from personal experience, or anything. Hey, it's a legit way to help boost low-level alts, okay? Don't judge me!
