I grew up playing RPGs like Final Fantasy and Zelda. I knew no other worlds besides the ones provided to me from those awesome titles. Sure, every now and then I would move on and play a little Star Ocean or Phatasy Star; but the bulk of my RPG memories are of a little elf in a green hat, or the magically breathtaking worlds brought to us by Square Enix.
Alas, my favorite titles are old-hat now. Sure, they will continue to release sequels. I have no doubt my kids will be playing Final Fantasy XXV; but the fact of the matter is that the sheer joy I felt when playing my favorite titles is gone. I grew up. So now I embark on a new adventure: I must explore the magic and mystery of the many other RPG worlds out there.
I begin with a list of the RPGs soon to be release that I am looking forward to trying:

2/25/2009 - Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Xbox360):
This one is kind of a cheat because it is a prequel; but, nonetheless, it is a game I am very excited for.

3/25/2009 - Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (Xbox360 and PS3):
If you are a fan of the original Sacred, you will understand the excitement behind a new one coming out.

6/16/2009 - Alpha Protocol (Xbox360, PS3 and PC):
They are calling this an “espionage RPG”. I like the sound of that. As another Call of Duty FPS addict, I found myself desiring an RPG with first person shooter aspects – Something a bit more interactive than your usual “follow the story line and win” take on RPGs. It seems this game will play a little like Fable; but instead of being a child in an old world, you are a modern day secret agent. The choices you make in each mission will ultimately form the agent you become.

6/31/2009 - The Orb and the Oracle (PC):
It looks interesting enough. This is the sequel to Dungeon Lords and is your basic magic and sword-play kind of game.

9/1/2009 - Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS):
This game is almost a prequel in the fact that it will tell the history of Roxas and Organization XIII. The player will be able to travel the many Disney worlds while learning more about Organization XIII and how it came to be.

10/2/2009 - Phantasy Star 0 (DS):
Finally, Phantasy Star is portable!

11/4/2009 - Dragon Age Origins (Xbox360 and PS3):
First of all, it’s made by Bioware, how can you go wrong? This game goes back to Bioware’s roots with an amazing fantasy based story line, great combat and interesting characters. This is one I am definitely going to pick-up.

Date Unknown - Final Fantasy XIII (Xbox360 and PS3):
Duh? Haha, what can I say? It’s Final Fantasy! You could stick the title Final Fantasy on a piece of dog doo and I would buy it.
That is the basic list. There aren’t many RPGs that have been announced yet for this year. I am sure something else awesome will come up, but, for now, this should hold my interests.
There are also the vast amounts of RPGs I have yet to even try! *Giggle* I am so excited!
Happy Gaming,
CnC
