Hot off the virtual presses comes Blizzard's announcement of the next BlizzCon. BlizzCon 2009 will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center Friday August 21st and Saturday August 22nd. If you haven't had the chance to attend these events, they are definitely a great chance to celebrate all things Blizzard. Last year was the first year that all three franchises were properly represented, and I expect this year to be chalk full of Diablo 3 announcements and StarCraft 2 details so it's going to be a big'un.
That's not to say that WoW won't represent. Blizzard has been extremely tight-lipped about their other next-gen MMO, and although we may still not hear word about it in August, my guess is that World of Warcraft will at least have the name of an expansion released. Back at the first BlizzCon in 2005, which was also held in August, we got to hear the news that WoW was getting its first expansion, The Burning Crusade. Does moving the 2009 convention to August mean that we should expect a similar announcement? Or maybe Blizzard is deciding that they want to alternate the months so keep us on our toes?
We could also take this as an indication that Blizzard is keeping their promise of a boxed expansion per year (or close to it) November 13th gave us Wrath of the Lich King, perhaps we shall have Maelstrom (my personal favorite) or Emerald Dream sometime near the Christmas holiday. We shall see, friends. Maybe this will be another lackluster WoW-vacant convention. If so, is it really worth the trouble to go?
