Yeah, it blew my mind too, watching theMass Effect 2 trailer and learning that Commander Shepard was supposedly killed in action. We weren't the only shocked ones, however, because threads on the Bioware forums exploded soon after, debating the topic. Personally I think it can't be true, but stranger things have happened in gaming. In any case, because of the uproar, the Bioware devs have told the fans something pretty interesting: do NOT delete your save game files from Mass Effect.
This isn't the first time that a game will use the save game files from a previous title in the series, but the ominous way in which we've been told to "hang on to your Mass Effect 1 saves" leads me to believe I missed something in the first game. I guess it's time to replay it and make sure that I pay good attention this time.
