This weekend I got the chance to attend a Video Games Live concert held in honor of Wondercon.  Video Games Live, for those of you not in the know,  began in 2002 as a touring group spreading the message about how beautiful gaming music really is.  What began with five shows has bloomed into a 70 show world tour, and Saturday night they premiered music from Chrono Trigger and Chrono Chross in addition to their bevvy of RPG musical selections.  All during the evening I was enchanted and impressed by hearing the scores of games I know presented in a new light, and I began wondering: Which is the best music from an RPG?

So I put the question to you readers, because as enthralled as I was listening to One Winged Angel through new ears, I am more interested to hear your opinions on the subject.  Which musical score from an RPG really sunk into your bones?  If you could only listen to one RPG soundtrack for the rest of time, what would it be?

Oh, the Chrono series, hands down. All two of the games. While I do love me some Final Fantasy, I always thought that Crono Trigger set a bar, only for Chrono Cross to raise it.

Wholeheartedly seconding the Chrono series. I could listen to Chrono Cross until the end of time and be perfectly happy.

I also really love the music from Warcraft III & World of Warcraft, as well as from Halo. And Final Fantasy XII.

I went to watch Play! with a couple of girlfriends a few years back. It was awesome. I'm waiting for it to visit San Francisco. On game music, Chrono Cross tops the list for me. I just the love the opening music. It's so poignant and exotic at the same time.

On the other hand, Suiko 2 has some nice tunes as well. FF8's music for Tomb of the Unknown King is awesome. I just love the smooth, waterfall of piano notes. :) And Legend of Mana's opening theme kick-ass too. That's all I can think of on the spot. :)
