Sometimes it's the smaller games that are the real gems. I feel that way about The Witcher, one of the most delightful games I played in 2008. While the load times stank to high heaven, and the game bugged out in places, it was still a joy to play Geralt the monster hunter roaming the backroads of medieval Poland. When they patched the game and released a new Enhanced edition, I rejoiced, but in my heart of hearts I felt that this was really a console game mistakenly released on the PC. Don't get me wrong, I'm a PC gamer at heart, but something about the over the shoulder camera angles and the quick-response time needed for the controls begged for a controller.
As it turns out CD Project Red must have either read my review of The Witcher or have spies in my living room. The developers have revamped the game for Xbox 360 and PS3 and are releasing it as The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf. It seems they were listening to all my issues with the game, because they have systematically answered every point I made. With an updated graphics engine this game will be prettier than ever, and just in time for this year's stocking stuffers. Now as I look forward to playing through this game on my console of choice, my only worry is exactly how weirded out I should be by the developer spy cameras. I certainly hope they don't take points off for goofy looking pajamas.
