Sony Online Entertainment recently announced a new story addon coming to Final Fantasy XI on March 23rd. A Crystalline Prophesy: Ode to Life Bestowing follows the tale of the town of Jeuno, and what happened when a mysterious crystal fell out of the sky and began a series of events that lead to revealing the secrets of Van'diel's past. I'm not sure this is another game that's using a thinly veiled Alaska as its setting for an expansion, but it sure looks cold there.
If paying for a story scenario for a MMO seems odd to you, then you haven't played Final Fantasy XI. This is the MMO that prides itself on story, and is one of the few (WoW's Wrath Gate comes to mind as well) MMOs that includes story-driven cutscenes. Think of this expansion pack as another set of maps for Unreal Tournament 3, only it's story not maps, and an MMO, not a shooter. Make sense? Of course it does.
While we await March 23rd for Crystalline Prophesy and its inordinately long name to be released, enjoy this gallery of screenshots.
