Yesterday, I was chatting with a friend online about cosplaying. She wanted to drag me into it. Now I don’t know about you, reader, but I, like 90% of the gaming geeks, shudder at the thought of cosplaying. It takes money, a serious amount of guts, and out-of-the-world sewing skills to be an awesome cosplayer.
Still, I couldn’t help but wonder if I have the skillz and the monay to do it (and, of course, the supermodel looks), who will I cosplay as? Hmm…definitely not Tifa or Aerith. The FFVII ladies don’t quite appeal to me. For some odd reason, I find Tifa’s chest to be intimidating. Doesn’t anybody else find it creepy and painful looking?
On the other hand, I will never cosplay as a FF8 character. As much as I love the game, there were too many bad cosplayers who killed Squall and Rinoa’s image. And don’t even get me started on Sephiroth, Vincent Valentine, and Cloud; you don’t want to know the horrors I had seen. Suffice to say that if I do get drag into cosplaying, it will not be as any Final Fantasy Characters, except maybe for Mog.
After much thinking, I came up with three non-Final Fantasy RPG characters whose costume and style I just love and wish I could be for just five minutes. Here’s my ‘cosplay fantasy list’:
1) Polka from Eternal Sonata - Isn’t she cute?! I melted when I first saw her. Man, if only I am that cute, maybe I’ll get away with lots of things like parking tickets and free ice-cream for life. Plus, her costume is so frilly and girly that it’s in a whole different class by itself. Now if only I can get my hair to curl like two French fries gone crazy at the ends…
2) Hrist from Valkyrie Profile series – She’s so cool, my jaw dropped when I first saw her. I love that purple armor and swishy skirt. Just add a giant halberd and I am set to go…someplace…and err…you know, do valkyrie-like stuff?
3) Alucard from Symphony of the Night – I know I’m not a male, but this guy’s sense of style had me drooling ever since the first time I saw his coat. If only I can pull that look off… (And yes, Symphony is not technically an RPG, but can you really argue against his entire costume?!)
Enough about me and my fantasy list. What about you, readers/fellow gamers? Any RPG characters that you would love to cosplay? You can tell us; we won’t laugh. After all, gamers are dreamers.
