I lost many an hour this week to the dark, gritty world of Fallout 3.  While I was busy being emersed in the game, all sorts of news popped up around the globe.  This week Bethesda held a press event in London, and while I wasn't able to go, I can certainly share with you some of the goodies gleaned from reading GamePro's coverage of the event.

* Fallout: New Vegas:

First and foremost was the news that there will be a new title coming to the Fallout series.  We can't call Fallout: New Vegas Fallout 4 because the game isn't being made by Bethesda, but rather by Obsidian Entertainment, who have licensed the engine to create a completely new game set in the Fallout universe, are best known for creating Fallout 2 back when they were known as Black Isle.  Knowing how brilliant Bethesda was with the series, it will be interesting to see how the original team does with the game.  It could go well or flop, but either way I'm going to get more Fallout time, and that's a win already.  Expect Fallout: New Vegas to drop late next year.

* Broken Steel:

The announcement of a new title wasn't the only big news to come out of the London press event this week.  We also learned more information about the third DLC pack coming down the pike. Broken Steel will be the finall DLC pack for Fallout 3, and it will be the first one to actually change the main storyline.  On May 5th fans will be able to pick up Broken Steel for 800 XBLA points.  I'm not giving anything away to say that this pack continues the storyline of the original game (one we all though very much concluded) and deals with the Brotherhood of Steel.  All I can say is the Tesla weapon sounds awesome and I can't wait to try it out.

* Fallout 3 MMO:

On the "news that makes me cry" front, there's trouble in the water for the Fallout MMO.  It seems that Bethesda is having licensing issues with Interplay's attempt to make what would be Mandifesto's favorite game of all time.  On the bright side, we know Bethesda is wanting to make an MMO themselves.  Perhaps the license struggle with Interplay is a confirmation that the Bethesda MMO will indeed be set in the Capital Wasteland.

* Fallout for cheap:

GamePro reported this week about a deal GoG.com is promoting to sell the first three games in the Fallout series for $14.37 each.  Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics are available until this Monday.  I wish this included Wasteland, but with bargains beggars can't be choosers.

DrZeiss

I heard the GoG deal was download :(
I like tangible stuff... and burning the game to my own disc doesn't count cos my handwriting sucks.

Mandifesto

Yeah, they've had this deal before, usually around the time of Fallout 3 releases. I personally prefer hard copies myself, however everyone's in an electronic distribution phase now, so I suppose we'll have to adapt. Maybe get yerself a P-Touch?
