I’m in a rut. I finally got to the final boss fight for Valkyria Chronicles but I’m unwilling and unable to move forward. Why? Because I’m intimidated by the final boss: he scares the crap out of me and I’m not looking forward to getting butchered by him. So here I am, two days later, and still procrastinating.

Some boss fights are a snooze-fest while others make you sweat, whimper, and beg for mercy or a miracle.  For example, Ultimecia is pathetic as a final boss; I totally creamed her every single time, but Lezard Valeth from Valkyrie Profile 2 kicked my rear up and down the arena. Whenever I think of him, my palms get sweaty and I am grateful that I don’t ever have to fight him again. I am pretty sure there are thousands of gamers out there who do not relish re-fighting Sephiroth or Kefka. The worst boss fight I ever had was Luca Blight from Suikoden 2 (see here for why). He is, in my humble opinion, one of the hardest bosses ever, hands down. Yes, even tougher than the infamous Diablo his fireballs and giant meaty paws. Luca is a complete pyscho that will totally pawned Diablo, if they ever get into a fight. I have no doubt about it.

What about you all, fellow RPG gamers? Which boss reduced you to a crying, gibberish pile of shame? Which boss made you dread playing the game? Do share, do share.

Which Diablo are you refering to, the original or Diablo 2. Needless to say I hated both, but I was just wondering which one lived in infamy.

Diablo from D2 scares the crap out of me. The final boss fight is always a mess of run, fight, heal, and port-out-of-there frenzy. :(

No boss fights are ever hard... not when you have strategy guides and gamefaqs!
yeah.. yeah... call me a cheat all you want but I play games to enjoy it, not to tear my hair and curse and swear till I'm foaming in the mouth

I loved fighting Kefka. Once I had a beefy team ready to go I constantly looked forward to the challenege cause I thought it was epic. Same with Sephiroth. LOVED those boss fights.

Very few RPGs, especially not JRPGs, have given me problems in terms of the difficulty of the mainstream boss battles. Of course, sidequest foes such Shinryu/Omega from FFV or the Dark Aeons in X are an arse if you don't have the right preparation.

- Admittedly, when I ran into Y. in Zanarkand in my first playthrough, I died a few times.

- In IX, Ark was a pain in the ass if all my characters didn't have Confuseproof. Especially trying to steal the Holy Lance... forget it.

- Suikoden V gave me a few problems in the final dungeon, as I didn't have many of the SoD's. My main party had Prince+Lyon, another party had Zerase, and the third party was royally screwed.

- Dragon Zombie in Breath of Fire III still sticks in my mind as being annoying as hell.

- In Star Ocean 2, Unlimited Indalecio was insane, until I went through the Cave of Trials, at which point he became mildly irritating.

- Ragu o Ragula in the original Wild ARMs without Goat Dolls and without Turtle Badges is impossible.

Okay, I take it back. Most bosses are a cakewalk, but some of them downright piss me off. Subsequent playthroughs are usually much easier, though.
