There seem to be fewer kinder acts in the World of Warcraft than a run through. For those who are unfamiliar, this is when a much higher level runs a much lower level through an instance. Just yesterday I got the chance to do just that. My little Horde character was just able to qualify for the Scarlet Monastery, and therefore needed some help to get through it.

Well, help came in a level 60 Tauren Death Knight, which are still the coolest DK's out there, in my opinion, but I digress. The DK was happy to help me get through all four stages of the monastery and collect all the fat loot that I wanted. Great deal right? Wrong.

I find that people in WoW judge you by the level you're playing, and therefore assume that someone like myself (a level 30) has no ability to do anything right. This is perpetuated by their continuing belief that my level 30 character is also my main, and therefore I must be a full fledged noob (only partially the case).

What truly gets me steamed are idiotic commands like, "stay out of the room" or "don't attack ANYTHING". Listen up, I'm not a first timer at this and I don't appreciate being spoken to like that, just because you rolled a Death Knight and automatically start at level 58 doesn't mean you get to boss folks around alright? I could roll a DK too, but I'm tired of being like 16% of my server.

A lot of times I see folks requesting runs through higher level instances and offering up gold to pay for such work. This to me is fine as well, but it seems to me AWFULLY boring. I mean all you do is stand back away while a much higher level runs around and kills everything. What kind of fun is that? Where's the challenge in that? It doesn't feel right to me, having someone else do all the work so you can make sure you get all the good drops, even though you'll likely out level it in three levels.

Regardless, I appreciate when someone does something like this for me, because what I could always have is the "run arounder", someone who gets you into a place and then bails after the first boss. Yesterday I was questing with a player who suggested that we "find a group and run through RFK until we level", at this point both of us were withing one bar of leveling so we didn't need much more. Afterward, he said "we can just bail", and that upset me some. Because LFG is set up so that folks can run FULL instances, not hop in and out as they see fit.

Nothing seems to bother me more than this most likely because its my time they're wasting when they set up a group and then bolt shortly after. It's not cool and there should be some sort of penalty for it. What I don't exactly know, but I would like to see one imposed to crack down on such behavior.

In reality such penalties are way too difficult to correctly impose and therefore we're not likely to ever see them. But just remember those of you high level characters, if you're going to run us noobs through an instance or two, please be nice with your words and understanding with our actions. Oh, and don't put looting to Free For All either, that is just SO not cool!

As the often giver of run throughs, group loot just slows things down if I am expected to stop and loot everything that sparkles, and if I just run past it - it stops the person being run from getting all the silver and cloth. Most people I run *ask* me to put it on FFA, even if i select to pass on all loot.

I've found that such warnings as "dont attack" and "stay at the door" are necessary a lot of the time, especially if you don't know the person you're running. I've taken people many times - including some who I know should know better - who decide to stick with me and thereby pull everything in the room to them just by being within agro range. It is really, really annoying - especially if the person dies and misses out on 20 mobs worth of xp and even more so if you're not a class that is able to rez.

Maybe I am being too optimistic about this Death Knights intentions, but its possible that he wasn't making an assumption of your lack of skill, and instead just wanted to make sure you knew. You know, to avoid unnecessary death. ;)

Remember that this person is putting themselves out for you, with no benefit to themselves. It doesn't really seem right to complain about it, to me, because even if you do have to put up with a little lip, you're still coming out better off at the end. And if a run through is truly "BORING" and "doesn't feel right" as you say, then you may wish to consider doing the person a favour and refuse the next time you get an offer.

Spot on Celkie! While i completely appreciate the run through I don't typically accept them for all the reasons above and what you have mentioned as well.

Perhaps it is because text lacks tone that I seem to always get offended by short commands, because I don't know if someone is saying it passively or aggressively (unless they add !!!).

To me, WoW is meant to be played at your level with others at your same level for the joys of playing and succeeding together. And therefore I'm not one who asks for run throughs, but who in their right mind would turn down the offer at free XP? ^_^

Very true - I quite enjoy giving run throughs (theres something satisfying about dropping nothing but consecrate and seeing 10+ mobs die at your feet), but only when the person knows what theyre doing and doesn't make it difficult for me so its a treat usually reserved for friends and guildmates only.

If necessary at all, any 'commands' to them usually go something like this: "Lol, you're going to die if you keep doing that." ;)
